Last year about 2500 couples filed for divorce in Lake County. At the end of the second quarter, there have been around 1300 filings. Meaning divorce is on the rise. Historically, many couples file early in the year, usually the Clerks office sees a New Year rush.

It seems that the sluggish economy, loss of employment and financial stressors certainly put huge strains on marriages, leading to ideas of divorce. Keep in mind whether you are a do it yourselfer or you hire legal counsel one thing is sure. Either way, you will have to pay the filing fees which are a little under $275.00 depending on whether you choose to have your spouse served by the sheriff or by certified mail return receipt requested. Having the sheriff serve your spouse will put your fees over $300 depending on where you live in the county.
